Mont Ventoux and its Surroundings
Mont Ventoux, the iconic guardian of Provence, towers majestically over this land of contrasts. At this crossroads where Mediterranean and Alpine influences converge, there’s nothing quite like cycling along the slopes of this sentinel of the Vaucluse, strolling along its wine trails or sampling the delicious local flavours. Would you like to join us?
The Giant of Provence rises up proudly on the horizon, its silhouette easily recognisable among the others: a bare, windswept summit and even slopes form an immense dome, at whose foot lies a land of picturesque villages and delightful wines. Around Mont Ventoux, from the Dentelles de Montmirail to the northern slopes of Luberon via the Vaucluse Mountains, as well as in the immediate vicinity, vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see.
Strong character
This is a land with plenty of character, famous for outdoor activities including hiking, cycling and trail running, as well as being one of nature's treasures: Mont Ventoux is classed as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It’s a great place to explore, and to experience an environment shaped by the intersection of climatic influences, between the foothills and the protective embrace of Mont Ventoux, the Giant of Provence.
Traditionally, summer and autumn are ideal for outdoor pursuits, but around Ventoux, winter is no less perfect: you can even ski! The Mont Sereine ski resort, at an altitude of 1,400 metres, offers both downhill skiing and snowshoeing. And as an added bonus, the views are incredible!
Ready to embrace slow tourism?
Slow tourism is a different way to travel. It involves exploring places in depth, appreciating the wealth of what an area has to offer, and, of course, taking your time. Among the wine tourism activities embracing this’ slower’ approach, we particularly the winegrower picnic carefully concocted by Château Pesquié. Enjoy a gourmet basket in the shade of the plane trees in the estate gardens. You can even round off this rustic lunch with a stroll along the vineyard path. The perfect way to discover the terroir and its grape varieties on your own, with no pressure!
Another suggestion: the gentle introduction to food and wine pairing offered by the workshops at Domaine de Mas Caron. Each is a mini gourmet feast, taking you off the beaten track and introducing unexpected combinations to make your taste buds sparkle. And as an added bonus, the vineyards lie at the foot of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, where the views are simply spectacular!
Ventoux rocks!
The Ventoux is also a land of art and artists, where creativity flourishes and innovation knows no bounds. Did you want an example?
